I have a little problem

I got my prelude 3-4 weeks ago. It still has the stock tape player. It has always worked, but when I went to warm up my car to day it said code on it. It won't let me do anything with it. Is there a code I need to put in for it to work, if so would it be in the manual or did the old owner make it up. I dont have the manual and old owner I belive moved away. So what should I do, I can probley find the last owners # but it will take some time.

You will need the factory supplied code, if you don't have it the dealership will have to look it up using the vin#

Remove the deck and bring it to the dealer. They charge around 79 bucks to remove it for you. They'll probably ask to prove that it's from your car, so drive your car there and bring your registration with you.

Why did ask for code again? Did your battery die? You might want to check that out too, otherwise it'll keep asking for code everytime you turn on your car.

It does ask for the code everytime I turn it on. I did unhook the battery, but I put it all back together. Could that have caused it? Thanks everyone

yea that would have caused it. its a sucurity measure. so if it ever gets jacked, who ever stole it cant hook it up.

You should just buy my lude. it already has a cd player and im in idaho

1992 lude SI.I put on a custom intake, dc sports header, cat back exhaust, 8.5mm wires, ngk plugs, stage 1 clutch, new timing belt, water pump, all other belts possible, just had the valves adjusted, and the timing advanced. I have a custom box for 2 10''s with an amp rack im the trunk. it is also lowered with truespeed coilovers.the tranny is 5 sp. i have also put on a front strut tower bar, and clear corner lenses. there is also a cd player and an alarm. the alarm is the alpine sec8063,the alarm has an LCD readout, telling you why the alarm went off, and what time.comes with shock, radar sensor and pager if the alarm goes off, you will get paged, up to a mile away. I only want $8500. for it. Please e-mail me for pics. i can get a body kit for it Kickertu@hotmail.com

Thanks for the offer si4u2nv but I'm looking at a mr-2 right now.

I'll tell some friends, one of them just bought a stock 93' si for 9 grand(what a dumb sh!t).

Trust me I would have looked in the manual but I don't have one. Well any other ideas?

If they are going to pull out a tape deck for 79 bucks why don't you just buy a freakin cd player! You people still use tapes??? I work at Best Buy and we sell some pretty decent decks for $130-150. I would go that route. Screw the tape deck.

do a search on this board and it tells you where the code is hidden. in the 94 and above it is printed under the cup holder but i read that it is hidden elsewhere also. either that or you call honda and give them the serial number off the head unit. it takes about 15 minutes to take it out and saves you 79 bucks.

hope that helps

The code isn't on it, take it out and call the dealer and give them the serial number on the BACK of the player and they look it up and give it to you....

Have Dr James answer this one. He said before there are a few locations where there are stickers on the car that contain the code.

The two places that you can find the code is under the cup holder like already mentioned and below the ash tray. Lift out the ash tray and search under that to see if the five digit code sticker is below that.

If they are not there then you will have to get the code from the dealership.

I have a 92 so I dont have the cup holders, and I took out the ash try and there was no sticker under it or around it.

I have a friend who whats to buy my 92 si and I want either the v-tec or theres a 91 MR-2 turbo here so I really don't want to go out and get a cd player.

Thanks guys I'll do a search and see what I come up with
