I just got my car back this week from getting it tuned. What a difference. The vtec head on my h23 block yeeeeeeee haaaaa Now that I have gone vtec I'll never go back. It's puttin down 181 to the wheels with just an intake and header. I just bought my vafc but haven't installed that yet. Man when that vtec kicks in it's like a little shot of nos. The greatest thing about it is that I still got the great h23 low end torque. Just thought I would share my excitement.Later
I got it done at holeshot racing in aneheim. I paid 2000.00 I have heard all the ups and downs and well I have to say the car is pretty stinkin quick. reliability we will soon see. I don't think that they want to do anymore because they had such a hard time with mine. But it's done now and for the money I really like it. But if your bottom end is in poor condition I wouldn't do it. I had a brand new bottom end so it works perfect!!!! I just smoked a accord with a jdm h22 and I had a passenger too.

well alot of people say that it's not good, but I did it anyway and am very happy with the results so far. I mean that is one of the complaints that I have heard is that some vtec motors have a little lack of low end torque. That's what was so great with the h23 it had torque all through the power band now when the torque ends the vtec kicks in.

try inline4 off of golden west and the 22. I checked them out the other day, they seem very knowledgeable, and better yet open on saturdays.where are you at exactly?

I Have my shift light set at 7300 so by the time I shift I am at 7500 or so and that seems to work pretty good. I don't have any internals so it won't make much power past 7500. No I did not have the squirters installed the shop said they help but not necessary. But he was probably bull****ting me. I would of like to of had them but the ls vtecs don't have them and they do fine.

Well, this isn't an LS/VTEC... in the H22 the oil squirters are there for a reason. They aid in relieving the heat from the pistons after combustion. Adding them will probably add more reliability to the engine, and far extend the life of the pistons.
BTW... I love inlinefour, they do great work and can get parts extremely fast. Everyone on here knows how much I like them. Plus, they are only 5 minutes away from me when I am at school. Who better to buy from?
good numbers...but why does everyone think the h23 is so much more torquey...my motor has a higher stock torque number...but its all good, im still curious to see what kind of power my car is putting down... my almost 100 mph trap speeds are making me smile, boy do I love all motor

Aren't the oil squirters to help the valvetrain??
I don't know if I would want to rev a h23 vtec to 7500 that much. The vtec head won't keep you from spinning a bearing which happens to h23's especially ones pushed harder then any of the parts where inteded to be.
i am actually looking into this conversion right now for my car!! it seems like a very good way to pick up 30 whp if you have a h23 that is!! i like the conversion and believe that it can work well and be as reliable as stock but precautions DO have to be made!!! 1. oil squirters, a must!! these help with the valve train and the lubrication at high temps. 2. while tackling this project it would be a great time to upgrade your internals. i.e- valves, springs, retainers and the like so that your car was just that much stronger. as well as if you can afford the extra 1000 dollars go ahead and get the pistons and rods!!! you will be set then, and honestly should pick up another 10-15 horses by doing it!!!
im glad you are enjoying the conversion and hope to be joining you soon!!!!
The problem is that it's not just 1000.00 for new pistons try like 1600.00 because with the new pistons you have to get the block sleeved. and that alone is 600.00 bucks ouch. I looked into all of that, the squirters and everything. I might put them in later. I don't race to much so I don't think that it is going to make that much of a difference. I barely go into vtec. I don't mean to say that the h23's have more torque,it just comes on a little sooner than the vtec model, it has to because it wasn't built with the vtec.

From all the service manuals I have seen, the piston oil squirters are placed in the block below the pistons, so that when the pistons come down from a combustion stroke, the oil gets squirted under the piston to cool it off a bit.
I wonder how much it would be to install them now that everything is back together?

The H23 DOES have more torque. Have you ever driven one? The H22 has a higher peak torque, but that doesnt mean ****. The area under the torque curve is what matters.
The H23 has a longer stroke and that is where the torque comes from. The H22 has VTEC and that is where the power comes from. Put the two together and you've got the best of both worlds

Couldn't have said it better myself. This is true, I have driven a few h22s and the torque is differnet. I really do love the broad torque curve of the h23.
