I gave up on the lude today...

I was on my way into the city today, and this is after
having just bought a new tire since i blew a tire previously..
so i am crusing and my car shakes slightly at high speeds..
my hood has some vibration on it at the base... i actually
NEED the hood pins for it to stay down.. and this is a spoon..
which saddens me. I also have both cv boots torn, so i'm running out of options here the car is pretty much a waste right now
especially at 145k miles on it...

i'm turning in the key. I think i'm buying a mustang..

what do you think i can get for it?

HAHA!

I was thinking the same exact thing. Whenever someone posts about selling their car it's like a pack of voltures circling their next meal.

Anyway, I'm sorry that you feel that way, but I don't see how "THE CAR IS PRETTY MUCH A WASTE RIGHT NOW."

1. So your hood is shaking. You were the one to replace your hood with a carbon fiber hood. If you left your stock hood on there would be no problems. In my mind this is a result of modding your car.

2. Your CV joints are both torn. This is basic maintenance, they don't last forever. If they lasted 145,000 miles then you are pretty lucky. I wouldn't be complaining about basic maintenance because it is a fact of owning a car. You complaining about torn CV joints is like complaining about having to get an oil change................it has to be done.

3. So your tire blew out. You were the one driving the car, it didn't intentionally swerve to run over a nail or whatever you ran over. You drive on highways and roads and those things are expected to happen every now and then. Maybe you didn't even run over a nail, and it just blew out on you. You may have gotten a defected tire or you simply neglected to replace balding tires, but this is also basic maintenance also.

All in all, I don't see how you can call your car a waste right now, because all the "problems" that you have mentioned have absolutely nothing to do with the cars fault. You make it sound like the car is a lemon but in actuality, the problems are routeen and one is due to you modding it.

Preludes are solidly built cars, sure there are lemons once in a while but from the sound of it your car is not one of them. Take care of the car and perform the maintenance it needs and it will return the favor by taking care of you.

Don't get rid of the car because it is a nice looking Prelude.

Mark

you wanna know what's a lude that's a waste? I have a 92SR with a little over 130 000 miles, I swap the engine in february cause the other one was leaking coolant and the timing belt was due and the clutch too so instead of putting 800-1200$ on an engine with that mileage I decided to get a new one with lower mileage, since I have the car there was rust on the quarterpanels, I thought I'd be able to get them fix but I never got the money to do it until lately when I got a raise but since I got a new engine I don't have money for a new paint and I really need to do it. I went to get the car aligned not long ago and they told me there's 890$ in parts that needs to be changed in the suspension so they can align it, and until I get it aligned my rear tires will continue to wear out on the inside. When I brake the steering shakes.

I bought the car 8500$ a year and a half ago and I still owe over 9500$ on it with at least 2000-3000$ in repairs to do on it and I don't have a penny, but I won't let it go

Now tell me your car is a waste again

well, actually the reason the hood shakes is because
i crashed! a while back before i had the hood on i got into an accident, it took out my radiator support and the shop i took it to overcharged me and still left my hood moving the way it did before the repair. The thing is i never got movement in the hood before it was crashed.. its a spoon damnit hehe.. but i'm reconsidering you do make good points, i just found a place that i can buy a cheap rim at(its bent).. . just everything seems to be going wrong with it, or if i fix something, something else goes wrong.. :-/

make me an offer on the hood.

well, it's one thing if you just want a change. investing in a new car is always good. but please, please buy something that has some resale value.

i just don't understand people who invest all thier money into cars with no resale value. not a mustang please.

but mark has good points. accidents happen and you can't avoid them sometimes. if you're sick of the little things like the shaking hood, then maybe it is time to let it go. all other problems sound easy enough to fix.

these things happen - it's mostly maintenance, or at least it seems to be.

i've had those days too, where you just wanna give the key to whoever will take it and be done. actually, mine's in the shop right now getting repainted. i look at her and sometimes, all i see are a bunch of dollar bills plastered all over the body. sometimes i see the car i love.

lately, everything seems to be ok, and you know what? since so much stuff has happened in the year that i've owned her, almost every day, i get out of the car after arriving wherever and actually silently thank the car gods that everything is ok. it's like how they say you don't know what you have till it's gone...sometimes you don't realize how good things are until they **** up and you fix them again.

You have the chassis,..... and it looks good! ditch the f22 engine, Get a H22 with less miles and the H22 tranny as well. Replace CV boots and get some aftermarket wheels. If you're not satisfied with that I'll buy your lude!!!

alright heres what you do...

1) go buy some remanufactured axles and replace both of them. They are around $70 a side. and its very easy to do. If you dont know how to do it, then buy a helms manual from Helminc.com...($65 shipped to your door)

2) open up your hood and find out why it shakes. Check the latch to see if its tight, check the mount points near the windshield to see if they are tight. Adjust the corner screws (in the front) with the rubber grommets on them, so that the hood doesnt shake anymore....

3) if all else fails shoot it!

Is it a real spoon hood? What kinda condition is it in? Send me an email at jordan_mendler@yahoo.com. Also, do you have any close up pictures of the hood?

Also, do you really think a mustnag is gonna be more reliable than your lude

heh, Jordan nailed it!! I was just going to say that if you think the 'lude has problems, Wait until you own a Mustang, If you drive them like I think you would, those things fall apart.
It's not hard to keep after your car and keep it nice, most people tell me that my vehicles seem to get better instead of getting worse over the years!

i changed my mind on the hood, yes its an authentic spoon, its gorgeous hehe.. i looked at it as i walked into work today, i turned around and looked at the car, and it looks beautiful with that thing on there.. so thats not going anywhere. sorry.

i'm just going to have to buy all that stuff.. and fix it i guess.. but the thing is, this is an ongoing battle.. fix after fix after fix.. things just keep going wrong, its a 10 year old car. i dont know... just very frustrating, its never 100%..

the thing that worries me is the hood movement i think if that wasnt there,, i would be satisfied,.. . i dont know whats wrong it just moves at high speeds, it didnt before.. the hood latch is adjusted at the lowest it will go.. doesnt have the little rubber stoppers those are my last option.. if they dont stabalize that thing i dont know what i'll do.. i might buy a stock hood afterall, keep the carbon fiber one just for funn incase i ever want to change shoes or something..

i think a mustang would be reliable, i dont know why everyone says that they're bad cars, my friend has had his 5liter, he drives that thing extremely hard and it has 250k miles on it.. still going strong..
..
