HP vs. MPG for new Lude owner

What a great place to learn about my new Lude. Got her last Friday, after having my 89 LXi coupe totalled in the parking lot(just had the engine rebuilt 10k miles ago, gotta love it-any buyers???)

She's a 92S (with a F22A1 engine-Anyone know tha specs on this?), Milano Red, has 134k on it, one of the cleanest interiors I've ever seen on a 10 yr car, Si Rims with some new Euro TA 50s on her, nice audio hook up, and I got it for less than 3G.

She has a few quirks, power antenna is thunking like mad(69 bucks at dealership-OUCH),paint is faded quite a bit(compound, polish, and wax were no help) Clutch master leaks a bit, small oil pan leak, but boy do I love her allready. So far he only repair\replacements have been-some new rubber for the brake and clutch pedals, dome light bulb, rain gutter clips(still need to sand and repaint these as well as rear window piece) and a switch to Castrol Syn blend.

Was thinking of doing an Air Intake upgrade-haven't decided which style or brand to go with yet(open to suggestions) For those of you who have done this, did you have to give up some gas milage?
I know the extra HP is nice but is it worth the trade off?

Thanks,

\\//\\//

f22 = 135 hp. 147lbs/ft torque. (dont quote me, but very close to those #'s)

prelude.vtec.net has ALL the info you could want.

The f22 is the exact same engine as the Accord 90-93.

clutch master is about a 80 bux fix at a shop i believe.

Before i do an intake or any other performanc emod, i would FIX all those oil leaks, and do a full tune-up.. compression checks, etc etc, make sure your good to go... go over her with a fine tooth come, THAT will give you WAY more performance than an intake and other bolt ons.

my .02 cents =]
WELCOME TO THE PRELUDE!!!!!!!1

Welcome to the board and congrats on your purchase!

To add onto what Crate mentioned, here are the specs on your S model Prelude. Undortunately, it is the lowest performing model that was offered but it sounds like you got a good price.

In line-4, aluminum block
Displacement: 2156cc
Compression ratio: 8.8:1
Valve Train: SOHC, 4 valves per cylinder
Power (SAE net): 135bhp @ 5200rpm
Torque: 142lb-ft @ 4000rpm

As for the antenna, when you turn the radio on, and it starts to clunk, just pull it up the rest of the way and put some WD-40 on a rag and thoroughly clean the antenna. After you wipe it a few times spray some on the joints of the antenna. This may solve the problem because the antenna really collects alot of dirt while driving. If this doesn't work then you will need a new antenna.

All red cars oxidize much quicker because of the pigments used to create red. Unfortunately, the only fix is a repaint. Over the summer I repainted all the areas where I noticed oxidation.

The rear window molding is a common problem with all 4th gens. You can sand it down and repaint it or buy a new one.

If your car has 134,000 miles I wouldn't switch to synthetic oil. Your seals have been used to conventional oil for 134,000 miles and if you switch to synthetic which is alot thinner, you may notice a few more leaks than before.

As for the intake, go with an AEM Cold Air Intake. I'm sure everyone here will agree with me on that. You will notice an increase in horsepower but you shouldn't notice a decrease in gas mileage because your engine will be breathing more efficiently creating better combustion. If it does decrease gas mileage, it will be slim to none.

See you on the boards!

Mark

when my antenna started to go bad, I yanked out the whole assembly and installed a fixed, black antenna thats about 1' long. it looks nice, still works, and is lighter weight!

Or when that f22 dies you can invest in a jdm h22 which will put you at 200 hp with a pretty new engine.
