How well would a Magnaflow muffler work?

Hey all,

I have had my Tanabe Hyper Medalion exhaust for over three yeras now and I am sick of a 4" melon shooter sticking out the back of my car. I have been looking for an OEM looking exhaust for a good price but the only one I have found is the Thermal R&D for a fifth gen and that is way too much $$$.

So I am looking at just making an axelback either out of the current piping or having it custom bent by a shop. For a muffler I am looking at one from Magnaflow on this page: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/m...reetseries.htm
I am looking at # 14815 or 14862

My main concern is sound. I love how subdued and mellow the tone of my exhaust is now and I absolutly do NOT want a fart can sound.

So what do you all think? Will this be good enough for the roar of the H22 or should I keep looking?

I have one, doesn't sound like a fart can, but it isn't mellow.
The shop didn't have the resonator at first, so I drove around with the dual-tip 2.5" muffler for 5 days and needed earplugs.
An 18" straight-through magnaflow resonator helped a lot, but still louder than I want.
Reccomendation: DON'T LET ANY MUFFLER SHOP TALK YOU OUT OF A RESONATOR.

A second resonator (which should fit) should get my exhaust where I want it.

This is on a 5th gen, btw. Similar to 14815, but with a 2.5" inlet.

The current piping on my car is 2.25" and has a resonator on it. I am only going to replace the axle back portion and retain the rest. This is why I am probably going to have them make me a new one rather than replacing my current muffler. This way, if I don't like the new muffler I can just put the Tanabe back on

If you want it quieter, add a second resonator to your b-pipe.
I would reccomend a moroso spiral-flow, exellent at reducing the bumblebee like qualities of high-rpm 4-bangers.

Now check this out: http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/xl/xltips.htm
#13983

What is the difference between that and the 14815 above? I see it isn't fully polished but I don't want it polished. Plus this one's only ~$95 vs. ~$120 for the 14815

Seems to be a winner.

^^^ yes. A resonator is used to cut down on the raspyness of the exhaust note indicative of all 4 cylinder engines. It allows to sound of the engine to bouce around a bit inside the pipe and will reduce the tinny sound. It does provide a small resistance to flow so if you are going all out race and don't care about sound, then don't use one. But I would highly reccomend one if you are building it to be street driven.

I've already bought a Magnaflow 12158, as seen here:
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/universal/oval.htm

I went with aluminized so it will look stock, rust won't be a problem I'm sure. Single 2.5" inlet and dual 2.5" outlet "tips". Total sleeper muffler. This will be used with a customer mandrel bent 2.5" catback exhaust.

You'll also make more power with any of these Magnaflow mufflers because the Hyper-Medallion has a chambered muffler, whereas Magnaflow is straight-through.

I have a Tanabe G-Power Medallion (cruise missile) on my Prelude 5th gen SH. I have driven it for three years with the noise restriction plug bolted in-- so it has never been too loud. If I wanted to replace the rear section from the axle back with a custom Magnaflow, could someone answer these three questions for me?

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/m...reetseries.htm

1) I like the 14805 and 14807's. They look great, but will they be incredibly loud compared to what I am used to?

2) If the 14805 and 14807 will be loud even with the Tanabe resonator, should I add a second resonator before the rear axle?

3) I'd like most of the muffler painted flat black. What kind of high temperature paint should I use?
