How to: remove mirror control/hazard button panel in 94+

I was cleaning the interior of my car today, and noticed the nasty buildup of crud in the little space between my main center console and the panel where the sideview mirror control and emergency blinkers button rest in. I tried to scoop out the stuff with a toothbrush, but some it just went in further. Making it disappear below isn't an option, I will undoubtedly have bad dreams about it tonight, so I was wondering if there's a way to remove or pull up that panel so I can properly clean it. Thx.

pop your cupholder out and reach your hand beneath those switches to pop them out from the inside...if you can't reach then you can remove your shifter console and get to them with ease

Edit: That's if you wanna take each switch out individually...

thanks bertico, but what about the surround, ya know, like the buttons rest in their spots, but can that surrounding piece be removed? It's between that piece and basically the main center console where I want to get to. Lol, maybe I should just go take a picture...

i see what you mean...as far as my knowledge goes that piece cannot be removed. Perhaps you can try a compressed air can like those keyboard dusters they use at the office.

tooth brush/ paintbrush should be able to get into the cracks and pull stuff out .. q-tips ..

thats what the pro-detailers use .. (or a proper detailing brush)

yeah, a Q-tip was too big, even when I wet it a bit and shaped the end into a flat, straight edge, it folded on me. I used a tooth brush and pushed the crud all the way to a curve and hoped it would pop up out of the crevice, but a lot of times it actually got jammed even further into and under the panel, which is why I thought it might be a removable piece. I'm going to try a can of compressed air and go at it again with a tooth brush, still though, for what I was able to do it looks better.

First of all let me ask you a question, Do you have the Fog light button their. If so, just pull your center console out, send it to me, and i will have it detailed for you no charge. I will even pay shipping both ways!

lol, smooth. I have the button, along with the rest of my fancy shmancy brand new kit, but i haven't installed it yet There is a generic orange switch that lights up when it's on, I'll give that one to ya if you want, it and it's housing fit flush in the fog light spot.
