Mobil 1 Drive Clean? This is a stupid question, but if the oil is still clean, do you need to change it? Is it necessary to change the filter if the oil is still "clean"?
Every 4K miles ever since I bought my Si in 1992. Have driven over 200K miles and the engine still running great. Have been using, 5W30 or 10W40.

I used to change mine every 3000km's...but now..every 5000kms...it's been 3000km's since my last oil change and my oil is still pretty clean, it has the obvious browny healthy color, but definetly still very usable...
just make sure you use a good filter like the napa gold, or wix...if you are gonna go longer!
Originally posted by invaderlude I usallly change it about every 1000-2000 miles. I work at jiffy lube so i could change it every week if i wanted, but im too lazy to do that.
there isnt really any advantage to doing that except using 3x5 times more oil than an average driver.
even if the oil looks clean, after a certain amount of time it starts losing its viscosity, which you cant see on the dip stick, and it doesnt lubricate your internals as well. If you change your oil every 3k than all you need is a regular $3 fram oil filter, but if you go longer than i would suggest a little better of a filter. Never replace your oil without replacing your oil filter.
