I recently purchased everything that I need for the 5 lug swap, I am going from S to VTEC Rotors and calipers plus I also picked up some ITR GM wheels woot
I have been reading up on the swap and it was stated that there are variations in the length of the axels* and maybe a slight difference in the knuckels. People have remedied this by using washers before the axel nut so that it tightens properly.
My question to those who have done it is:
How many washers did you use, or what was the length of the spacer made. Did you install on both sides and if so was it an equal amount on both sides?
I do not want too put too many spacers to where I pull on the axels when I tighten it, and of course I dont want to not put enough, causting my bearings to go out.
wussup kail. ur J's boy down the street with the red lude ryte? Well, i didn't use any spacers or washers on my axles. I just did the conversion using 5th gen axles and it works fine. I've had the 5 lug on for about almost a year now, everything is all good in the hood. lemme know when u do it tho, i wanna check out your car.
hey anthony.. your gonna be pissed, i got a set of itr wheels to hold me off for a few months till i get my enkie rpf1's ( i think thats what they are)
i might just use the 5th gen axels since the boot on one of mine are already split.. what size tires are you running.. i guess the conversion moves the wheels in just a bit so maybe i can run a wider tire without rubbage..
haha you got some gunmetal itr's too? that's gonna look really nice on red. I'm runnin some 205's. I didn't wanna get too wide with the stock rim. yeah the conversion sets the wheels in a little bit, i'm planning to go with 17" rims with a nice big lip later on. I think some 215's should be cooh. well, juss let me know when ur done with it. I've always wanted to see a red 4th gen with itr wheels, white or gunmetal, it'll look sick. peace
You know, now that I went back and read my post.. I must have been half awake or drunk when I wrote that, I am surprised anyone actualy understood what I wrote. Thanks.
And to answer Ludster's question, I got lucky I purchased the entire setup (including struts and other parts that I do not need) for $300 + used ground controls from my integra, that is including shipping. I am not sure what others have paid for the swap but I am pretty sure I got a deal.
^^ really? Most of the 5-lug swap threads here cover the use of washers for final adjustment.
Anyway, I forgot, are VTEC rotors the same size as 5th gen rotors?
PS. If you have the time, do a throrough followup of this swap when you're done, there's not much of that on here so far.
I plan on seting up my camera on the tripod and taking pictures as i go, another thing im planning on doing is making precise measurments on the parts and compare 5th gen to 4th gen. Everyone mentions that the 5th gen swap brings the wheels in a bit but I would like to figure out how much and why.
I am pretty sure the 4th gen Vtec shares the same size rotors. I do know that this will be a step up from my S brakes (thank god)
One other thing I am happy about is not only will I have a decent selection of wheels but the availablity of brake upgrades will be a huge plus. Especially since many are finding now that kits for the dc2 integra are interchangable with the prelude. woot
Yeah, hehe, S brakes are awesome That'd be great if you do a thorough walkthrough of the swap. Even if I don't end up doing it, at least I can see what's involved in the process.
Yupp the brake upgrades will be a big plus. You can pretty much use any big brake kit that is made for ITR's and 5th gens. The calipers and rotors between 5th gens and 4th gen VTEC's are exactly the same. And so is the front calipers of an integra type r. One day... when i get some bigger rims, i'll upgrade to some wilwood's, rotora's or spoons.
