How many quarts of oil should i put in for an oil change?

it should tell you on the owner's manual on how much you need...

im at my friends house, and i dont have my owners manual with me... The reason im asking is because in my helms at home I believe it said 4.1 quarts and we filled it, but it looks like it is below the fill line on the dipstick and we are wondering if i read it wrong or something, so does 4.1 sound right?

shop manual states

5.4(5.7, 4.8) for engine overhaul
4.3(4.5, 3.8) for oil change, including filter

capacity L (US qt, Imp qt)
