How many miles until these Preludes are untrustworthy?
What is the average miles on these cars before they start to get really bad? I was thinking about buying a Prelude with about 115k miles on it, but I need to make sure it will last me for atleast four years. Can I make it to 150k with no problems, or maybe 170k? We sold my '88 Civic w/ 150k miles on it and it was starting to wear, so that's all I have to base my judgement off of.
My prelude has 162k miles, and it runs sweet still...these things can go 200k +, with proper treatment!

i bought mine with 114k and i have it up to 133k. i've had my share of problems. only major repair was a new a/c compressor: $450. the bearings in the pulley went to crap and the loosened pulley supposedly damaged the compressor
the guy i sold mine to earlier this year, had like over 250,000 on his last one, he wanted mine cause it was still "young" a 92 with less than 90,000. and had more "pep"

Hey sweet guys. Thanks for all the responses! I must say I am honestly impressed! I think I'm gonna go with the '92 Si with 96k miles. So I could tell my annoying dad that I could easily get 100k more out of it if I play nice, eh? Sweeeeeeeet.
It's all about the maintenance .... I have four words for you: timing belt & oil changes! Since the prelude you're looking at has 92K miles, I'd have the timing belt changed ASAP. Honda recommends changing the timing belt at 90K miles. If the timing belt was to break, you can bend all the valves in the head (which will cause over $1000 to fix)...and just like any car, change the oil every 3,000 miles.
Well the kid said the guy who had it before him changed the timing belt (and this kid has only put 5k miles on it in two years), he just doesn't know exactly when. Can you physically get in there and see the condition of the timing belt, or do you have to take the whoooole front end out to even just get a look at it? And I thought it was every 80k on the Ludes.

The honda manuals suggest 90K or 6 years for the first timing belt change - I did mine at 87,000 and I replaced the water pump to be safe at the same time (If your water pump ever goes - you have to take off the timing belt just to get to the water pump)...For the second interval before changing the timing belt, people have suggested a slightly smaller interval (some say near ~60,000) - I will be replacing mine once I near 150,000 miles - which should be a couple years away hopefully
I've got 201,000 mi on my 92 si, only problem was a broken O-ring on the oil cooler. The owner was told by a mechanic that her rear main seal was shot, along with a laundry list of other things, so she sold it to me for 1,000.00 bucks. lol it pays to know how to fix your own car.
