you can make it a VTEC, but the extra horsepower would only be in the top end.. not worth the money in my opinion. if you just can't live without VTEC, then swap in an H22

overbore the cylinders and run forged pistons or even k20 pistons. swapping a vtec head changes not only the vtec cam, but also the non-vtec cam. So the engine in total is completely different. Every aspect is changed. so how can you say that the extra power would only be up top?

you don't pick up that extra power until vtec engages. the non-vtec cam is not a dramatic difference than what is in the f22 if i can remember correctly..

see if you can find dyno's of a stock f22 and an h22. i'm willing to bet they are pretty similar up til vtec

f22b

I am currently running an f22b with a timing change of about 3degrees to the positive. It now runs in the 190 range @ about 7rpms. slapping a vtec in there is like saying, your jumping off a cliff, i wanna do it too. Subtle timing, can do wonders for your performance, especially if you take the time and do it slowly. If you don't know how to do timing then don't do it. Find a friend who can help you out. Don't go to the dealer cause they wont do it. Get a timing light and learn. Its a good tool to have when your out at the track anyways.

if you live in a state where you need to smog you're only allowed a +- range of 2° of your timing or you wont pass.

yeah that is the case here in cali but if you know how to do the timing it is a very easy change to do right before you get it checked. It is also not detected buy the black and whites that love to pull you over for no apparent reason.
