How long did your (h22a) swap take?

Alright, I'm ordering the engine in the next two weeks, but an installation location still needs to be found. We could do it in my driveway, but there is no protection from rain. Summers in GA are notorious for freak thunderstorms poping up. How long should swapping my F22 out for the H22 take? I helped a friend with a B18c into a civic last summer, which took a week working a few hours a day. I'm thinking that my swap could go a lot faster (easier swap, experience, have all tools now). Is there any places where you can like rent a booth or section of a garage for a few days? I was thinking about a public storage unit, but you probably have to sign a long-term contract.

I think I spent about 3 full days working on mine, it actually took me a week of real time due to things like work, ( stupid job! ) and I ripped off my clutch hose like a jackass (forgot to disconnect it before pulling the motor -d'oh!) and had to order one, so that took a day or two (happened on a Saturday night so I had to wait until Monday morning to order..). If you work carefully and make sure not to pull a 'kevie' it should take you most of a weekend.

I had a garage to work in but it was not heated so I tried to wait for a good weather forecast... didn't work! The day after I started the Temp dropped WELL below freezing (-10 to-15 c!) and stayed that way until I was finished!! Imagine lying on a concrete floor in -15.. not nice!
Of course the minute I was done, the weather cleared and it was a beautiful (for Calgary in March) +15c again.. sigh.

mine took about 4 days to do. Most of it was wiring and prep work. The actual removal and installation of the engine was gravy. It took 6 hours to remove the original engine, and approximately 4 to put the new one in. The wiring took the longest since I used the stock harness and had to re-route the o2 sensor and add VTEC and the knock sensor.

If you use the VTEC harness, then the wiring wont be that bad for you. You will just have to find the VTEC wires in the engine harness (with an ohm meter) along with the Knock sensor....

I had nothing but rain when I did mine and I did it outside on a slab of concrete....good times....

I'm a computer geek by day so I was pretty damn sore when I was done, and my hands have never been so thrashed, bleeding all over, even with my mechanics gloves!
I had to do a lot of walking that week (parts runs ect) and barely ate anything because I was always so greased up. I ended up loosing over 10 lbs over the course of the swap!

Yeah I got it worked out when I found a USDM ECU for $150 on ebay. I still have the Auto VTEC ECU, but Im gonna get it chipped soon and use that. When it gets chipped they can convert it to a 5-speed ECU and hopefully give it a better or racier program....we will see.

What was yer name again? email address.....sorry I have talked to many people....

I'm considering an H22 in place of my F20

Didi anybody bother changing the dash instruments for the proper vtec ones? I bet that would be harder than the engine swap

I didn't bother to change mine, the stock ones work OK, and people give funny looks when you drive it straight into the redline!

Mine took about 17 hours with rewiring my stock harness.

Yeah, I didn't change any instruments and yes, I like the looks on people face when I drive it past redline from 6.5 to a little over 7.5

hey dave, I'm the guy who met up with you I think it was like a year ago at SIR. The red prelude with decals and big wing Well all that's off. I'm in the groupbuy for the spoon lip and tryin to get a hold of a WW sides and rear. I have a 3-piece to go with it all but I want to wait till I have everything first before I put it on. I finally got the JDM h22a. I got it from Foreign motors up in Lynwood. The same place you did. I didn't get a tranny though. All it came with was basically the long block. I had to reuse my alternator, fuel rail, h23a1 tranny, and other misc. things. It was pretty straight foward like you said. I reused my SI wiring harness and just added 3 wires(ground, VTEC selenoid, and oil pressure). So far I've run a best of a 14.91@94.1mph with a slipping axle. When I put the axle in, I did it by hand and didn't really shove in there well enough. It kept coming halfway out after every run. I took a sledge hammer and hit it in. It's in pretty good now. So what's your best time so far?

Okay, the topic is similar; so I'll just post in here. Provided I get enough responses, I won't repost a new topic..

What is involved with swapping from a F22A -> H22A? Specifically JDM H22A...

S/F

Some other questions I've had were; What would the price be to add a turbo to a H23A before having the new H23A Turbo engine put in? Like price without turbo and price with turbo.. Etc. Thanks.
