How I did my Flip Flop Trunk mod(pics)

Well I have been asked enough and it really pissed me off when I bought this kit to find out I could have bought it from the hardware store for a couple of bucks less. I am posting these pictures so you can do it your self if you want. Let me know if you can figure it out from the pictures and I would be glad to help. Hit me up on IM or email me at

mr.clifford@cox.net

Now for the show.

so all you need to do is put 2 hinges in those places and then take out the existing bolts? I have dynamat on my trunk, do you think it will be too heavy to stay up?

Anyway, nice job, looks good.

Does it still close right? I would think the extra little space for the hinges would make it not close all the way.... does it? pic? How are rattles?

I am doing mine another way... Totally custom.. That does not look that safe and those hinges dont look sturdy.. I am setting mine up with a cotter pin and custom welded on brackets.. So at at show I can just pull the pin and she drops..

I leave the bolts in the front two holes. That way when I close it there is no slip up and I damage paint. I just take them out when I want to do it. My trunk has an added OEM spoiler and still has the old springs and it holds it up fine.

It still closes tight. And as far as rattles.... Two 12's don't help but I can't hear it from the inside. My mids kinda drown it out.

Good for you. I would do mine another way but I don't do it all that often. It is safe because I leave the stock bolts in place when I don't flip it, which isn't that often. Again this is just how I did mine and others can kinda get an idea of what to do.

How I remember doing it:

1.) Get about 10 towels, a drill, two hinges that match the thickness of the trunk arm, a rivet gun, some rivets, a drill bit that matches the size of the rivets, a dremel, and a six pack.
2.) Place the towels on your rear window and create enough cushion in order to place the trunk lid on them without scratching everything.
3.) Unbolt the trunk lid and place on your thick cushioned towels.
4.) Remove the plastic piece in the end of the trunk arm.
5.) Place the hinge at the end of the trunk arm and drill two holes into the hinge and through the trunk arm. Do this to both trunk arms.
6.) Use the rivet gun to fasten the hinges to the trunk arm.
7.) I used the dremel to knock the hinge back so I can place both bolts into each hole. The hinge covered the hole slightly so do what you like.
8.) Place the trunk back on in the stock fashion and screw two bolts into the trunk lid to hold it still so you can drill the other side of the hinge.
9.) At this point you should be able to gently drill the holes through the hinge and into the trunk. If you push to hard you will ding your trunk and that is your fault. Not mine.
10.) Rivet the hinge into the trunk and marvel at the wonder that is Flip Flop Trunk mod.

I even use my stock lug wrench to keep the trunk lid off of the rubber trunk seal. You can think of many creative ways to keep it off the trunk trim.

I will bring this thread back for all those that wanted to see how it was done in the other thread.

Since it is such a "pointless/worthless" mod.
