How to 'gunmetal' your wheels...Ghetto style....*pics*
I recevied a request from SI4ws on how i painted my wheels so here it is
This is pretty ghetto i know, but i have had these on since january and the paint has not chipped what so ever... : )
1) First take the wheels off and clean them
2) Now lightly sand and clean again
3) Now mask the tires with newspaper....this is a pain in the @ss... its even harder when you have meguiars tire gel on it, tape doesn' stick well.....
I ended up riping the newpaper in circular pattern to cover more area of the tire.....
4) primer... i used many coats of primer. Plastic kote is the brand i used.
5) paint.....Make sure you do light coats... this is the key to making it last long
as you can see i couldn't get that very outer edge.....taking your tires off would be alot easier BUT mounting the tires back on could scratch the paint... and plus you gotta rebalance it....

uuuhh...not really...my friend just spray painted his crx wheels flat black and there wasnt any chips on the paint yet....and he even did it when it was drizzling out...and the paint stayed...he's been driving around with it for a while now...i'm thinking about doing this to my 5zr rims...heheheh..just the spoke part...not the lip of the rims.....what color paint did you use neoekai?...thanks
What grit sand paper did you use? Doesn't look like you went through the clear coat much, I want to do this to my stock wheels because they are junk, the clear coat has pealed, I wonder how much I can sand them down safely without harming the aluminum? I really like the look though, very clean.
Do you know if this brand makes some kind of bronze color? Also how many layers of primer, and how many layers of gunmetal did you do? Also do you need to use some kind of clearcoat on top, or is it built into the gunmetal paint?
