I was thinking about attaching an LED to the back of the needle. I've seen some cool needle kits out there, but only for 5th gen. I was curious on this too, I don't want to damage or bend the needle by meddling with it.

First take out your cluster.

Take off the front cover. Then the gauge face. Then unscrew these three screws.

See the needle assembly??

and the black little holder piece below the needle??

Remove this plastic piece

Remove the black holder piece.

and lift the needle out.

For the other side.

Works the same way.

To remove the mileage and trip assembly....

remove this screw

and this one

Now you can see the assembly

The wires run to the black plug here. You will have to unplug it in order to get it out.

You just removed the odometer and tripometer(for lack of a better word )

This one is even better.

Did your trip odometer quit working??

Here is the trip reset arm

It hits the little white lever

This is unpressed. You can see the grey arms that run around the numbers.

and pressed. You can see the grey wheels lift off the dials.

When you press the trip reset it pushes the black arms here. Kinda behind the dials and under it.

and it hits the black piece around the axis of the dials. You can see a white plastic stopper on the axis then the black oval coming out.... that's what the arms push back to get it at zero.

This is the motor that turns all the dials.
