How do you get the polished valve cover look?

I know some people on here have done something to their existing valve cover to make it look like crome or bushed aluminum or whatever. I guess you are somehow removing the paint and polishing the metal. How are we doing this? Do I have to remove the valve cover to do it?

Thanks
Justin

There are a couple of ways. One you take a wire brush and some steel wool and go to town removing the paint and then get out the aluminum polish. You can take it off and get it sandblasted and the go to town with the polishing. Or get the paint off by one of the means above and get it chromed or Jet Hot coated.

aircraft paint remover, its a clearish gel you can "paint on" and then you can let it do all the work for you and then you just have to wipe off the now bubbled-up paint. thats how i did it. a can of this sh*t will run ya about 7 bucks at autozone. then you can start on the polishing... oh and just dont let the gel get on your skin, it will burn like a mother******. but if this does happen you can neutralize it quickly with water.
