Hey I just got this 92 Prelude and I dont know what motor is in it lol. Im not new to cars but Im def new to Hondas. From what Im told its either an H22 or an H23. Can I tell what it is by the vin? Maybe Im blind but I couldn't find the sticker under the hood either that says the engine size.

others have already told you how to figure it out. all you have to do is look at your engine bay. look down to the left of the exhaust manifold and there will be a small flat area telling you if its a h22/f22

ah thanks yea its an H23. Is that better then an H22? Sorry for the noob questions, just dont really know the difference between most of them aside from the obvious (size, s/dohc etc). Got the car as kind of a hand me down from my cousin and its ****in mint for a 92. Sweet little daily driver. Ive also got a dropped F150 and an 85 Camaro.

yet, the H23 has what, 170 ft/lb of torque? whereas the H22 has 160ish. I'm probably off, but you get the idea.

Nah, that's incorrect. The H22 has more tq. but just a little more. The H23 makes it's peak torque earlier, that's all.

The H23 has 156 tq. The H22 makes 158 tq. The JDM H22 makes more tq. 161 tq for the H22A. 163 tq for the Type S H22.

156... 158... 161... yea thats all the same as far as Im concerned. Whatever at least I dont have the $hitty motor lol. I honestly dont plan on ever doing a swap only because the motor in it runs so well and its quick enough for what I need. Ill prob just drop it and maybe try auto-xing it. Gotta keep it reliable lol.
