How do I replace the antenna mast?

Hey guys my antenna mast has been crooked and not going all the way up or done for a while so I bought a replacement. The instructions they gave me were kinda crappy so I thought I'd ask. Anyone know the step by step to replace the antenna mast and how hard this is to do? Thanks

Check out the other thread in this forum on antenna motor replacement for some info but here's my recollection. I did this a while ago but I'll see if I can remember. Basically it is easiest to have two people. First you have to unscrew the bolt holding down the antenna. Have someone turn on the radio and as the mast is coming up, grab the base of the mast and pull it out (you may have to loosen it first before you turn on the radio). It's tough but it will come out. Then you have to stick the new plastic wire down in the hole and have your friend turn the radio off. If you've aligned it correctly and pushed the wire far enough in, the motor should grab it and pull it in. If not, keep rotating the wire and turning the radio on and off. Then just put the mast in the housing and screw it down!

The problem is though, if your antenna has not been going down all the way, then most likely there is a piece of the plastic wire broke off inside the motor itself. In that case you have to take out the interior trim panel and pull the motor and take it apart to remove the broken piece of antenna. then follow the steps above.

I think it's not going down because the actual mast is bent. Otherwise, ya, bigger problems for you.

Less then Half Mast?

Hey fellas, i'm new to owning a 'Lude and am working on fixing stock problems before i go big, which is inevitable. I was wondering if the mast on my 1994 was broke within the holder where its sets if it will still come up once the radio is activated? Its somehow broke off within the mount and i can't get to it otherwise xD.

Thanks

Do you hear the motor run when you turn on the radio?

You can replace just the mast andnot the whole assembly.

#17 for just the mast.

Part Detail

Personally I would spend the extra $3.00 and get #24 instead though but that's just me.

I got the entire universal Assembly. It likely needs it since I cannot remember ever hearing it try to extend. It came with instructions, but to be honest this foreign car thing is completely new to me. So if you know where i can find a video for installing a whole brand new unit, get at me please. Thanks for the quick response.

is there a good aftermarket antenna that will replace the stock one? I'd rather not have one that goes up and down since up here in northern WA when it snows, ice will just freeze around the antenna and break the motor when it tries to push the antenna up

look into bee sting antennas. Something like what S2000 has. Shouldn't be hard to install and hook up.

You can also look into shark fin antennas. The ones that are placed on the roof towards the back. ala BMW and many others. This will of course require you to plug your old antenna slot, or shave it etc.
