I believe the knob screws off and the boot.... Im pretty sure you have to pull the center console out and pull it off the bottom.
I could be wrong, my 93 had an aftermarket one on it when I got it and ive never taken mine of in my 94

i tried to pull the center console out but the top of it is connected to the climate control i think. does the console need to come out completely?

if it's anything like the 5th gen shift boot/knob setup, you'll pull the boot downward from the knob, uncliping it from the knob. Then you'll turn the knob counterclockwise to remove it.

ya the knob turns ccw for a while then doesn't go any further.
this is sort of what it looks like: theres the shift knob, then a metal ring just above the boot and below the knob, then under the boot theres a metal piece.

it comes apart around the climate control I think.....your gonna need it to pull up enough that the part of the console where the boot ataches is about the top of the shifter so you can slide the base of the boot above and out.

Well if yah havent got it already, basically you twist the shift knob unil if comes off, then you unscrew three of the screws on the sides of the center console. After that you should be able to take off that piece that hold the shift boot. Last but not least the shift boot's base is attach by two screws. Pretty straight forward...

You have to remove the console to remove the shift knob and boot. When you get the console lifted up there is a small tie wrap on the inside that will have to be cut to get the boot loose, then you can remove the shift knob. Don't worry, the tie wrap can be replaced. I installed a Skunk-2 shift knob in my Prelude, I drilled out the inside of the knob to make it shorter than the stock knob. For the boot, I drilled out a 1" rubber cork and slipped it over the threaded stick shift and attached the boot from the inside with a tie wrap.
