How do I do a compression test?

I cant find any directions for this, if you know how I can perform a compression test on my engine, please let me know:
1. What do I need to do it.
2. How do I do it.
3. How long does it take.
Thanks in advance.

im pretty sure i found this out by searching, but someone fill in the blanks here if im missing something

-pull the fuel pump fuse
-pull the plug for the cylinder you are testing
-put the compression test tool into that socket(you can get these at sears - 20$-40)
then just crank the engine
the psi on the tool will show you how well ur engine is doing...

a leakdown test would show you more though... but there are more steps...

I pull out all the ignition plug wires too. It's easier with two people. One person to crank, the other to check the compression. I think the compression test will tell you if the valves are ok and if the rings are ok. Leakdown will tell you if there is some cylinder wall damage. Make sure there are no big deviations between the cylinder. I think general rule of thumb is you don't want more than a 10% difference between each cylinder.
