How to: Brakes. - should be quick

On a 1992 4ws .. what are the tools/materials required to do the brakes if I want to change out my rotors ? .. I know they are warped but I dont know if they are pressured on (?? dunno the terminology) or if I can do this all myself in my garage.

What do I need for parts to do this job right, how long, what for shop supplies do I need? .. im guessing rotors and all pads/shoes .. any help and info is much greatly appreciated.

Since your rotors are warped, might as well upgrade them. You have 2 choices:
1. Acura Legend calipers with VTEC-sized rotors.
2. Stock calipers with Powerslot/Brembo rotors.

I don't wanna pay a lot so I went with option 2 on mine. The important factor here is your coefficient of friction, which means get some high performance pads. I went with AEM pads and it made a big difference on my braking power not to mention slotted rotors look cool from the outside. Don't get me wrong though, I still love to have bigger calipers with VTEC-sized rotors because having a bigger surface area dissipates heat faster, which leads to longer pad/rotor life (and it looks cool too). To replace them all you need is your strength and a few wrenches/sockets. I'm pretty sure this has been discussed several times. Do a search on this one and you'll find precious infos.

Geezuz, the prices on rotors & brakes for one step up from stock .. quick stop pads or something, got a quote at partsource and they quoted me close to 500bux CDN just for all the parts front and back! yikes!

Thx for the how to url tho, it'll help me tonnes!
At least now I don't have to do labor on top of that .. is it very important to use a torque wrench so I can see how much pressure I'm applying ??

CAn probably get one of those lent to me form the part store ?

It would be a good idea to use a torque wrench to make sure everything is within factory spec. You should also have a breaker bar handy because some of those bolts were very hard to get off and required extra leverage.

A few of the bolts on the rear assemblies I could not torque down because I could not fit the torque wrench into certain areas back there. I just tightened as much as I could with my socket wrench.

Good luck

Be careful not to strip the screw holding the rotor on. You will probably need a special tool (can't remember name).

The special tool would be the impact screw driver. Good for removing stubborn screws.

Thanks Scalifludesi, that's what it is.

I first tried tor emove that screw w/ a normal screwdriver,, and had to bring it to a shop so they could reverse-drill it out.
