I first noticed this back in April after a long road trip. The deterioration has kept to a minimum since then, as I try and drive it only to and from work now, but it is still noticeably spreading. I'm almost certain it's heat related, and while the temperature gauge never goes past halfway, we all know how vague the 4th gen temp gauges can be. The hood does get pretty damn hot...I remember it steaming when we got some rain back in March/April.

I have no hood insulator, but then again I haven't had one since I've owned the car (over 3 years now). Any ideas on what this could be, and if it is heat related, why my engine bay would be so much hotter so suddenly?

Oh yeah, I know my car is dirty. Central Valley dust can be a b!tch.


EDIT: Oh, and the two dents on the front passenger's side portion of the hood are from someone throwing a lawn chair on it overnight a couple years back.

not much you can realy do but repaint

you can however sand and polish your headlights and make them pritty

ot- azure green pearl is the best color is yours an se or a vtec

you should see if you can just get your hood painted to save money. Just be glad you dont have rust as bad as mine.

VTEC...and the car needs a LOT of TLC; poor baby has been neglected for the last 2 years.

And if I repaint, won't this just happen again?

probly not i dont think it s heat related i have some small spider webbing on my hood

been there since i got the car i juat wax it alot and it hasnt gotten worse

just buy a cf hood and youll be fine i probly will eventualy to fix my problem

If you repaint it it probably won't happen again. Most likely it's not from the heat. You probably got something on the paint and after years of neglect it just started eating away at the paint. That or just weathering. I see old cars have that look all the time around here. Just be sure to keep it clean and wax it for protection.

Seeing that you have bird crap on your hood, it's probably due to neglecting bird poo over an extended period of time.

Either repaint, or get a CF hood.
