Hole/compartment in center of rear seat?

This is a dumb question, but I gotta ask:

What the hell is that compartment in my back seat for? Between the two rear seats there's this hole covered in a fine mesh or something like that. Does it serve a practical purpose?

A subwoofer? Were they self-powered or did Honda have an amp somewhere in the car?

You mean this peice right?

the amp was small and mounted back there as well,
most people remove it and replace it with a larger 6x9 and use an outboard amp

rumor has it that there is an amp somewhere that powers it. I will be removing mine soon and will try to locate the amp. I bet a Helms manual would show it's location...

G-Loc is correct it's just a little amp powering that little 6x9 sub. It's small but really help pack in the punch

Yeah, there's no speaker there; the previous owner must have taken it off. I'm surprised he didn't take the tweeters, too. But I had no idea what that was. Makes sense, I guess...

Right now I've got a pair of subs in a box, the box is really tightly packed into the trunk, so there's no way for any air to flow through that opening. If I could make a custom enclosure, maybe that opening might let more bass flow through. Thanks, everyone!
