Hit Vtec and threw VSS CEL and speedo went dead - Honda Prelude Forum

Anyone ever encountered this before? Mostly I'm looking for guys who've swapped an H22 into thier car. I hit Vtec for the first time with my H22, first was aight, second my speedo stopped working, and third the CEL came on. ?? I reset the ECU and it went away. I've driven faster than how fast I was going so I know it's not speed related.. it's gotta do with Vtec some how.

I'll keep it simple first...

You've checked to make sure its nice and tight, right? The skinny bolt that holds it in isnt much.

The thing that confuses me is why only when I hit Vtec? Like i said before I've gone much faster on the fwy than that.

Oh yeah and on the way back home after the CEL coming on, the Speedo started working regularly again.

That is kind of weird because there is no real reason for the VSS to care if VTEC is off/on. Is the connector corroded or anything?

Like I said on the HT thread, check the plug; if you hit VTEC in first, it could have jarred it loose if you didn't put it on securely when you did the motor work.

I just checked it out again to make sure, and apparently the plug did come loose a bit.. I guess that's it.

i remember onetime we were getting vss codes due the v-afc wiring...it was weird that's for sure

well doesn't the VAFC tap into the VSS? That's probably why.

Hmm...sometimes the lighting in my EL guages will just completely shut off, so I can't tell how fast I'm going or reving at night...it's happened 2 times now, but over 4 years of owning the car.

It just fixes it self, I guess...which leads me to believe there's a semi-faulty connection, somewhere. It happened a few weeks ago, and then before that, about 2 years ago, haha...

well, being that it's WAY intermittant, I really wouldn't worry about it. If something that obscure was happening once every 2 years.... I wouldn't put much thought into it
