Higher Idle than normal for an H23

I've done a lot of searching on the subject, but no luck yet...I know most people's problems are usually jumping idle (caused by air in radiator, coolant mod, etc.) or stalling at idle, but my problem is a higher than normal idle...My 4th gen Si almost always idled about 750-800 rpms...I haven't changed anything on the car for the past several months (except for running several autocrosses) and now my warm idle is sitting at 1100 rpms. I mean I'll finish a lap around the course or a cruise on the highway & then my car will be sitting at 1100 rpms. There is no fluctuation or jumping, just 1100 rpms.

I know I can adjust the IAC valve on the throttle body, but before I do that, I'd like to find the cause instead of masking the problem. What do you guys think could have caused my idle to change?

take the intake air temperature sensor apart and clean the screen? That's what the po community was telling me to do. I jsut replaced the sensor... fixed all my idleing problems.

haven't tried that yet...i thought that was usually a cause for a low/stalling idle, whereas mine is too high

My car idles higher than normal too....When I first start it, it will be right between 1800-2000 rpms everytime, and after its warmed up, it sits at 1100. I cant figure out the cuase of the problem. Any input would be appreciated....

I was told tonight that it might be the cold start valve...if the cold start valve starts to go bad, it will keep opening as if they car was trying to "warm up" even though the car is already warm..the only solution would be to change the cold start valve...For now, I'm going to turn down the idle, since everything else is new, clean, etc...

Try doing the coolant bypass and blocking off the fast idle valve, my car idles better and my intake manifold is waaaaaay cooler.

How To: TB & IAC Coolant bypass and block plate

Luder94si, I just did the coolant bypass mod and the fast idle valve block, and my car idles waaaay better now. When I start it cold, it idles at 1500 rpms for a minute then it sits comfortably at 1000. Also, I adjusted the idle screw so it now idles at 850. Try these mods and your car should idle back to normal. BTW, you wont have to get a new fast idle valve, since you are just blocking your old one.

Try doing a valve adjustment, if you haven't done one in a while...
