Hey is this fair/bad/good deal guys?

This fellow near me (chicago) is selling a 1994 Prelude. It has 130,000 Miles on it and it doesn't bother me since I know hondas can easily surpass 200,000. As far as it's condition it is nice on the outside, barely any dings or scratches, just enought to know its not a 2001 car. As far as rust. Its amazing for a chicago car 2 small spots near rear wheels and im sure it could come off with some of the rust b gone spray because it has barely just ate through the paint. The interior is rather nice, it's a little dusty and worn but again nothing that I wouldn't expect or couldn't fix up myself. This guy is askin 8000 and I know I can get it for 7000. You might be thinkin thats a horrible deal but keep readin. This car has a few toys with it. It has (as I remember) DC Sports Header - Air Intake - Racing Hart 17' Rims - Carbon Fiber Hood - Pullys - Plugs - Wires on engine - CatBack Exhaust with Apexi Dunk muffler - Clutchmaster Stage 3 clutch - Front/Back Sway Bars - Altezza Lights (kinda yuk)- and the Timing Belt was changed at 90,000 and oil was replaced every 2000. He has reciepts for all the stuff and he also has some brake pads and a ignitioner? (sorry im not formilar with what the hell it was or what it did.) So I ask should I pursue this deal? The onlything bothering me with the car is how many miles he has on it, It sounds great, feels better and has a good look to it. Im lookin for some opinoins here and maybe some possible ways to convince my dad that 130,000 miles isn't so bad for this car please any help would be much appreciated.

That doesn't sound like a terrible deal, but not a great deal either. The problem is with all those mods, its quite possible that he ragged the hell out of it. Although with receipts that he changed the oil every 2K, he may be one of the anal retentive car people who took good car of it!

Thats why most people on here with modded cars, put their car back to stock before they sell it. People are just hesitant to buy a modded car for that reason, *also*, its very hard to sell a car for the money that was put into it with all the aftermarket parts.

Well if you do go for it, take it to the honda dealer to go over it with a fine tooth comb. And if there are some little things wrong with it that wouldnt discourage you from buying, it can help you bargain with him on the price. Good luck.

He is in Chicago. Idaho might be a tad too far. To me the car sounds like a good deal if the motor it in good shape. See if you can get it compression tested.

You may want to get the price down even further maybe 6000-6200 because of the rust.

You say it is no big deal but IT REALLY IS. If the rust is coming through the paint then the damage is already done. Rust is a common problem in Hondas because of the design of the quarter panels. The panels are made with two panes of metal, the outer which is what we see and the inner. If moisture gets trapped between these to panes then the moisture works its way out in the form of rust. If you have rust starting to show through then it is much worse below the paint and on the inner side of that pane. It will cost you about $600 per panel to get it fixed properly which would consist of the shop cutting out the problem area, sanding it and prepping it. Creating a new piece of metal and forming it to the car. Welding the new piece to the car and sanding it smooth. Priming the area and repainting the entire panel. You may also want them to blend the doors so the difference in color can't be recognized.
