Hardwiring JDM headlights (H4 rewiring guide)

Hardwire headlight harnesses as well as use the stock foglight switch to turn on the headlight fog/citylight. - Well, I'll have that done before spring comes anyway=]

Hardwiring JDM Headlights H4

I haven't figured out the stock foglight switch as of yet. It's not a conventional switch.

Has anyone used this switch rewired?

So what is the point of doing all that? I have low/high beams the way the lights come in jdm preludes and I didn't use any relays.

If you hardwire lights, the beams will be brighter since you are not using stock thin wiring as well as the amount of excess wires. There's less resistance. It's an efficient circuit. I had them wired to the stock harness for power but was not satisfied to how bright they were. Also, if you have seperate wiring, you will be able to run high watt bulbs and not risk burning your stock wiring for the headlights.

Won't that descrease the life of the bulbs?

It's only a thicker wire. It won't decrease the bulbs life. The circuit is also protected just like the stock circuit with a relay and a fuse holder. There is just less wire resistance. I've had Phillips bulbs for over a year wired this way and they haven't blown.

I second that...... so don't label your mod as a "JDM" mod cause its not...

I wrote the FAQ last spring. I may be wrong, I don't know what the concensus is now about how JDM headlights were wired in Japan now. The last time I was on this board, most people on the board stated that this was the wiring configuration in Japan. H4 for high and low and H1 for "fog"/city. Sorry - I have not kept on with this hobby in some time=]

Here are some posts:

H1's are Low Beams, Right?
