when ever i make a pretty hard left turn sometimes right to, i here some like rattiling under the car.. sounds like little tiny rocks inside my exhaust for some reason i dont know why.. any ideas or suggestions? thanks
Could be a wheel bearing.. I had one go out in my 88 lude years ago, and that's EXACTLY what it sounded like.. it could also be an axle. that's not a terribly hard fix, especially if you do it yourself, but a shop'll charge you $200 IIRC
I had the same thing i took passenger tire off and the boot was ripped, all the grease slung in the wall of the rim and everywhere else.. CV joint... changed the cv joint which came with new boot and wham done no more noise... However its like a CLANK CLICK CLICK but when it first started it sounded like pebbles in a can.. I would check the cv boot and joint or the wheel bearing more than likely one of those.. OH also look for grease if you see a whole lot of grease inside the rim and all in the wheel well then yeah you have a torn boot somewhere but i would check all up under there ball joints axles as other people said all of that but 1st i would check the constant-velocity half shaft on the 4th gen. Its not a joint im sorry its a half shaft cv halfshaft. At autozone the right hand side like 115 but you get 50 back with core. left side 120 with 30 back with core. oh prices vary on auto or manual.. ill stop ramblin now but i hope you fix it

Mine was the right side sitting in the car the passenger side and it made the noise the most when i made hard left turns. Sometimes right turns too however it is hard to tell from what side you turn best way is to look behind the tire for a torn boot. There is a long rod(shaft) looking thing and then a boot right behind the rotor the boot behind behind the rotor if its torn and alot of grease is in that side thats what side you need thats the easiest way to tell. BUT they can go out and the boot be in tact but more than likely your boot ripped all the grease came out and it dries up and clink clink the noise. Because the cv shaft is like a ball in a socket with little bearings usually 6balls that turns with the suspension or turning of the car like any bearings no grease or lube it makes noise.. but yeah id bet on it being the cv halfshaft which is at the end of the axle the half axle . Just stick your hand behind your 2 front tires and feel the back of the rim and the wheel well if it has ALOT more grease than the other side you can bet thats the side... however i find it easier to jack it up and take tire off you can clearly see the boot and the shaft.. I noticed that mine was torn when i rotated my tires but was lazy didnt get another boot and within 2 weeks i hear CLINK CLINK..

there is a good chance that both need changing, especially if your car is a little older, idk what year you have idk if you said or not, but once the rubber on one cracks its normaly from drying up, so the other is probably not far behind.
i got a 95 on 106xxx miles.. lol ill check it out soon and let you guys know... and i dont here this everytime kinda stopped for two days, ill see if it comes up again..
ok soo i looked down into my car from inside the engine bay with a flash light and i saw the boot torn, im 99% sure it is unless boots are suppose to have a break in them(which i don't think but tell me if im wrong) so i just need to replace the boot?? or wats the deal
If you see any THICK grease from the torn boot, its the CV shaft. Just change the whole thing if that is the problem. There are different boots on each side though. The CV shafts are connect from the tranny to the steering knuckles - 2 boots per cv shaft (inner and outer). Above and behind the shafts are the steering rack boots and those tend to tear if old and it is common. Those really don't leak anything but if that is it (steering rack bellows boots), then the boots by itself can just be replaced. Which one is it?
second what do you mean by "just change the whole thing if thats the problem" are you talking about the whole axle??
ok so i think your talking about the steering rack boots because it looks like its the closets boot to the actual rim&tire.. i will take some pictures later on today..
Depends.... Anywhere from $70 - $100 after you turn in your old axle. Replacing the boot with a kit is cheaper, but if the joint is making noise, it most likely is bad so you will have to replace it eventually. Plus replacing the boot can be a messy PITA
Raxles - Raxles Home supposedly has some good quality axles. I think they're around $140 and that includes return shipping for your old axle.
i think ill wait like a week or 2 more becuse i dont really hear the sound every time its rare, and when i start hearing it more ill replace the whole axle..btw the new axle comes with everythign right, cv joints, half shaft, boots?? all the hoo haaa
Comes with everything you need already in place. Plug and play. If your Prelude has ABS, make sure that you mention that when buying the axle (they'll usually ask you)
