help with temp adjuster

im not sure what to do. i just bought a 92 prelude and have been doing some minor work to it. the other day i tried to turn the heat up in the car and the lever sprang back to where it was (about mid way). so i tried to slide it to the cool side and it did the same thing. what is causing this and how do i fix it?

I had a very stiff temp adjustment on my 2001 when I bought it a few years back
I suspect yours is just like the 5th Gen.

On my car, where the cable attaches to the bracket at the Heater Valve (on the firewall in the engine compartment) and the inner cable exits the sheath the end of the sheath had corroded and was restricting movement. I sprayed it liberally over a few days with WD-40 to get it to break free and then I cycled it many times, always spraying more WD-40 until it was moving nicely. Then some lithium grease to keep it lubricated and avoid any more rusting.

No matter how much you may want to, I wouldn’t force the cable, you’ll just break something.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.
