help - rev limiter kicking in @ 3k

Alright, my shop just got my motor back last week from the machinist where my H22a1 got sleeved with Dartons, 9:0.1 JE pistons, Eagle H-beam rods and all the rest of the good stuff that goes with a motor build up. Well, they dropped the motor in my car, hooked everything up and tried to crank it but it ran pretty rough, it turns out the machinist let the timing slip some when they were putting on the timing belt and my valves were to tight so they were not opening and closing properly.

So after all that was isolated the adjustments were made and it fired right up. While the valves still need somewhat of an adjustment it runs pretty good but for some reason the rev limiter is kicking in @ 3k, its cutting out & a check engine light comes on right away.
FYI - When we put the motor back in I replaced the EGR valve, Vtec Solenoid and the knock sensor. So does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? They didnt have a chance to check the ecu code when I was there so I will probably find out what that was about today but why would the rev limiter kick in @ 3k.

I will post an update later after I speak with my mechanic.

Take care... ; )

Get the ecu code but your car is in limp mode. It is also running really rich. Limp mode makes it so you can stll drive the car to get back home or to a shop and not do damage to your engine.

Ok, I spoke with the shop and it looks like he got it figured out. He said my ECU was throwing the check engine light.
((A little background: My shop doing the turbo install bought my ECU from me since I am going with a Hondata system and a P28 to put into another car that was doing an H22/Turbo engine swap. They had it in the car for a little while then put it back in my car so I could get my emissions done and break the motor in before the turbo install.)
So, I am thinking that something’s not right with my original ECU after swapping them between cars. I say this because my shop took another ECU out of a friends prelude and put it in my car and everything fixed itself. He said the car is running now and I will be able to pick it up tomorrow after he gets my belts and new clutch bled.

This whole one month project turned into 2 ½ month project has been full of up’s and downs. I cant wait to see what my car puts down on the dyno in a couple weeks, I am shooting for 350 @ the wheels. I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks for your input!

He didnt tell me what the code was so I am going to ask him again when I pick the car up tomorrow. This weekend my job is to break in my new fully rebuilt motor with a compresion ratio of 8.6:1. This should be alot of fun
Has anyone driven an h22 the compression like this w/o the turbo?

Thanks for your help!

Ok, so like I said this looks like a damn rollercoaster. My shop called and left me a v/ml saying that for some reason the motor is not firing on the 3rd piston. He changed the plugs and the spark plug wire but for some reason its still not hitting. He has some ideas and is going to run through those tomorrow. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with my motor now. What do you guys think?

We got it all worked out. It turned out there was an injector wire on the harness that got cut when they dropped the motor back in my car. Once they found it all the codes went away and I am now breaking in y newly rebuilt motor. Thanks for the advice everyone.
