Help on reupholstering armrests?

So i'm currently working on restoring/making my interior nicer like for example fixing the cracked door handle trim, eliminating rattling from my sound system, ect... because i have lots of free time to kill.

I was wondering how i would go about reupholstering armrests on the doors, in the rear and on the center console. Now i'm pretty sure i know how to remove those pieces to work on from what i've read, they're just held in by metal tabs which i can get to by removing the door panels and such. But after that i'm pretty clue less as to how to remove the fabric and put new fabric on. Is the fabric held on with glue?

Anyone that has experience with something like this any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've already spent many hours scouring several web sites for some sort of write-up with very little luck so far

In case your wondering, the car is a 92 SI with the blue interior. I'm thinking about replacing the fabric with black suede.
