Help with Gauges - Honda Prelude Forum

I recently bought a Indiglo Gauges for my Lude, and it has some connectors (black and red cables) that i shud hook it up to my head lights or whatever. Im lost, i dunno anything about wiring, i couldnt even open my gauges panel. The Indiglo gauges i bought doesnt come with any instructions . Anyone have the same problem ??? Thanks for listening

ther red and black wires are for power and ground. Did your gauges come with install intructions?

it only says to connect the wires to the headlight power, but it doesnt say the location of it

thats retarded.. all you need to do is find a power and a ground to splice them into. Try the cig lighter, its closer.

You have to pull those speaker grills off and remove the long plastic piece up top to get to the gauge cluster. Locate all the screws that look like they are holding the cluster on and remove them. To get the cluster out you will have to tilt the TOP of the cluster towards you and do some wrangling to get it out. It may seem (to me at least) that the cluster won't/can't come out that way but it does. If you try and tilt the cluster bottom out FIRST it will Never come out. Disconnect all connectors as you go to make the removal of the cluster easier. Once you remove the gauge cluster and get at the actual face DO NOT remove the needles!!!!!!!!!

The gauges are flexible enough that you can manipulate them to get them installed but DO NOT bend them to the point that, once on, they interfere with the sweep of the needles. I don't know HOW many times I have read a post saying the faces were installed BUT the needles are not working correctly or not at all. Remove the needle stops and those small screws to help you get the faces on and put them back on when done. Installation of the cluster is the reverse of removal. The cluster is kind of a bear to get back in-just like it was to get out but it can be done with patience.

Now to get power to them you can do what I did and feed the face wiring down through the dash and splice right into the light from the ashtray so that they come on when you turn on your interior/parking lights. The instructions I received recommended AGAINST using any power wires for dimmers or cigarette lighters as it may cause the indiglos to fail after a short period of time!!!!It's easy. Red for power and black for ground. I also have my under dash neons wired up to the same location with NO problems. If you want you can mount the color controller under the dash and still have enough wiring for splicing or you can do like many others and set the color and hide all the wiring.
