Help on Clutch problem

I need help since I am not sure if my clutch wore out or if is the Master or slave cylinder.

I was driving home from work and all of a sudden I had a hard time shifting - it was hestating going into gear and needed some pressure going into gear. After a few more times I noticed that the pedal was stiffer than usual and was feeling a thump, thump from the pedal.

With engine off the pedal feels same but when I start the car and in neutral the pedal is stiff again and feel the thumps. Trans shifts good with car off with pedal down or up.

I was thinking clutch but after talking to the mechanic which services my car he thinks it is the hydraulics. Fluid level is in between Max and Min and I see no leaks from the master or slave cylinders.

If one is bad you should replace both. If you had a leak you would lose fluid and lose pressure.

If the pedal is pulsating (in a manner like a brake pedal would with warped rotors) your flywheel, clutch disk, or pressure plate could be warped or shifted or even parts broken off and stuck. Do the clutch and bite the bullet is about the best advice I can give you.

If it was a problem with the hydraulics your pedal would most likely just drop to the floor and not come back up.

Look in the car where the pedal attaches to the clutch master and look for a leak or wet spots. Look for leaks under the hood at the master, on top of the tranny there is a rubber line, at the slave cylinder. Any lines in between anything listed could leak too. Good luck.

Open the clutch hydralic fluid container. if it is low and the fluid is dirty you need to replace both the master clutch cylinder (directly below resevoir) and the slave (located where the clutch arm enters the transmission). It is fairly easy to do them both. It is important to properly bleed the system or it will do nothing. Good luck.

Finally got my car running again - It was a spring that had popped out and got stuck in between the clutch and pressure plate
