HELP!!! clutch freeplay?

well i just got done with the manual swap and drove around about 300 miles since. today... my clutch was slipping like crazy... it was in first gear and i had to let the rpm go all the ways to 5000 rpm for it to move slowly... i smelled something burning so i pulled over and popped the hood and there were smoke coming out of the clutch. like where the tranny and the motor meets. i asked my friend who did the swap with me and he said i need to adjust the freeplay on the clutch since i don't have any freeplay on mine he said. well do you think adjusting the freeplay will solve this problem? and also, how do you adjust the freeplay? please let me know ASAP. thanks...

Michael

well there was a nut on top of the clutch pedal where it connected to the master cylinder which adjusts the freeplay. i don't know about not have to get a new clutch but mine was a brand new clutch but it was just in a wrong setting.
