HELP! Brake Light Assembly Not Working Properly...

Two weeks ago the break lamp light on my dash came on and sure enough my right break light was out. I replaced the bulb only to have it burn out a week later. Today I went to replace the bulb again, however, when I had my brother push the break pedal to see if it worked the break light did not light up. My question to you is.... do you think I need to buy a whole new break light interior? If so, how much do they cost and where can I get one. I am talking about the white plastic piece that holds the bulbs with the wires attached. Do you think that I have a short in the wire going to that light, and if so, would replacing this part fix the problem or could the short be in the relay that connects to this piece? Thank you for your help.

When the bulb went about a week later, are you sure it was the bulb and not the fuse?

power was obviously getting through in the first place before the bulb went, the second time around (Presuming the bulb went again, and not the fuse, the power was still working and getting through.....

I would take another look at the bulb connections, and make sure they are clean and dry etc, as unless you have been messing with the wiring, I cant see why it would blow providing you are using the correct Amp fuse.

Buy one of those screw driver electrical testers, and test the fuses and connections, (It shouldnt cost you more than £5.00 /$8)

Yeah I think it is odd as well. I know that the bulb is blown because it looks like the glas on the inside is smoked (black). The other two lights in the assembly work... Does anyone know of a sight that sells OEM parts. Thanks.

I was just looking at the blown bulb and I noticed that the filament is still intact. The two prongs that hold the filament up, however, are blackened at the ends near the filament and there are two dark (smoke colored) spots on the sides of the bulb closest to the prongs. I don’t know if this means that the wire shorted out or what... I just thought it was odd that the filament did not break.

Could this be fixed by getting a new wire harness for the rear taillight? Thanks.

I'm really not sure if you did get a harness that it would resolve the problem
I cant understand how so much power (Enough to blow the bulb and blacken it) could get through the fuse and not blow that first.

Try once more getting a new good quality bulb, make sure its not an under rated one and is specific to the model, if it goes again with the same results....
the only option I can think of is to call an auto electrician

Hope that helps in some way
