Heating unit problems

the climate control in my car doesnt work. I can recall when i broke it i was tryin to move the little slider across to the hot side and it was really stubborn. about half way it seemed like it just let go and slipped over to the hot slide with ease but there is no heat. i figured that i broke the little arm that was connected to the slider but this wasnt the case. im asuming its broken inside.... is this possible to fix? if i took the unit out and took it apart?

I had the same problem on my 5th gen a while back. The slider got really stiff and then suddenly gave way, yet provided no heat.

What happened was the cable that connects to the end of the slider came off (or loose) which allowed it to slide back and forth freely, but wouldn't regulate the temperature. The assembly had to be opened up and the cable reconnected to the end of the slider. After that was done the heat would roast ya.

I read that the cables sometimes rusted and caused them to stick. Of course when they get stiff, one applies more force and voila...they come off of the slider.

If this is in fact the problem you're having—and it sounds as if it is, then it is a relatively easy fix, unless the slider itself broken.
