Heat Oxygen sensor

The check engine light keeps coming on ever since I did the engine swap. The engine came from a 93Si. I took it to a diagnostics test, mechanics told me it was the "heat oxygen sensor". The auto parts wants 200 for the sensor, like the Honda dealer. Isnt there a generic o2 sensor I can install that costs less? Does the engine absolutely need the o2 sensor? Can I run without it? Its been like that for 6 months now with no problems

d00d go to NOPI! I got my O2 sensor for like 65$ + S&H!!!! Not sure if it's the same one you're looking for... but I had good luck... its OEM style with the harness included... usually a big price increase. So far so good on that O2 sensor... only have maybe 200 mi. on it now... but dayum that was cheap! : :

I just bought and installed one today. it was the bosch 15730 universal model with the 4 wires, got it for 80 bucks at a local parts place. the sensor part looks different than the oem version - the oem has a metal cage or something covering it and includes the stock connector already attached. but as far as functionality i can't tell the difference. some purists will tell you to fork over the $200 for the oem one because its "designed" for our cars but IMO it's the same deal as buying other brands of spark plugs and oil filters. if it works good for 1/3 the price then that's fine for me. whatever you do, don't buy a used sensor, that would be like buying a used pair of underwear. if you're worried about the price and can wait you should try www.oxygensensors.com, otherwise just find a universal one locally.
