Is the car going dead all together when this happens or is it just a few things that cut out?

I went through the same thing with the headlights. Sometimes I wouldn't even have to hit a bump at all, they would just cut in and out...at night, that's scary!!! We ended up tracing it to the headlight switch on the steering column. We replaced it, and all has been well ever since. That's just my 2 cents, as it could probably have a ton of other causes.

when you turn the car to the "on" position, do you hear a click from the left side of the steering column? If not, or just sometimes, your main relay is going out. The solder cracks around the points and needs to be touched up, good news is, it's an easy fix, bad news is, its a pain to get to. If thats the problem, run a search on here and there are some threads that tell you how to fix it (besides just replacing it)
