Headlight Adjustment : Puzzled

Well tonight I went out to adjust my headlight. I had read enough times about it and this is what I did

1) on even pavement I drove the car as close to a wall as possible
2) I marked off the middle of the lights with a horizontal piece of tape that extended across the entire width of the car
3) I marked off the middle of the lights with a vertical piece of tape (created a cross)
4) Drove the car back 25ft to make the adjustments
5) Problem is that the light width and height was huge so I really didn't know how to adjust

Is the light suppose to be a little higher than the tape but not much..... Someone fill me in.

Thanks

I ended up taking my wifes Civic along to do a comparison. Man.... were my lights completely off. Wow. I ended up aligning mine pretty much. I might make a few adjustments again sometime. the passenger side still seems a little weird.
The best part of this procedure is leaving your lights on so long for the adjustment (that off) and then trying to start your car and the battery is dead. Luckily my girl thought of a jump start.

I hear the driver's side light is supposed to point toward the center a little, to make it less bright for oncoming cars. I though mine was out of adjustment until I read that.

^^^ i read my helms and theres supposed to be a left right adjustment, its in between the high beam/low beam area when you look straight down at the headlight.......i tried to stick a screwdriver in there but all i see is a cog and it doesn't move

both my headlights are slightly pointed to the left......so its annoying and i wish they were pointing center

Those cogs turn. Put a flathead screwdriver between the teeth of the cogs and pry it to turn them. They'll turn.
