from personal experience, i bought a megan SS header coupled to a stock exhaust and it didn't really sound any much louder......nor did butt-dyno confirm anything

only thing i noticed was a bump in MPG

what are you trying to accomplish? sleeper? fuzz?
If you were looking to keep the fuzz of your back, talk to aries, he modified his exhaust so that the fuzz would stay off his back.

go with a "hotrod" type muffler... rather, a magnaflow or flowmaster, something that doesn't just look like a resonator with a really big opening on the end... have a flowmaster 60 on my 3g... 2.25" in/ 2.5" out... looks pretty darn stock, expecially when it's painted a nice, flat black...

although an exhaust system on a 3g nets very little power, it still sounds pretty nice...

DC Sports Headers

Bosal exhaust

Would that replace the whole system? or would I still have to use my stock cat? thanks.

hehe... nice little note on the bottom that they are not affiliated with the regular Flowmaster company...

however, that link for the exhaust looks to be just an axle back...

custom piping may be the route to go... i'm lost when it come to proper sizing for 4th and 5th gens, however... piping from the catalytic converter back... i'd toss a resonator in there somewhere for good measure...

the great thing about my muffler is that it isn't annoyingly loud, and it looks stock...
