Header Problems....

How do you get the bolts off? They seem to be "stuck"? What if they are rounded off? How do i get the rounded bolts off?

did you give them a good coating of WD40 or some other nut and bolt loosening agent?

the bolt on my EGR valve was rounded off, so i ended up using one of THESE. I just dug it into a corner of the nut and blasted away. it tore the nut apart a little bit, but eventually it caught it completely and started spinning off. I'd leave that as a last ditch effort. you can probably do the same with a hammer and chisel.

if the rust eater spray wont work, use a torch to heat it up (not cut it off), then pound a socket on the end of the bolt, take it off, itll cool off, then put the socket back on and crank that mofo off. my header bolts werent that bad when i replaced mine, but the downpipe bolts needed this method.

I use a 4ft breaker bar when any nut's/bolts give me a problem.

i dremeled off the bolt sticking out though the nut so i could get a socket on all the way since i didnt have deep sockets at the time. then with a breaker bar with a wrench looped on the end i was able to get them off.

well no i had one available to me already. i would go but deep sockets because it would be cheaper. a dremel is not a bad investment though. i use that thing quite often.

wait - i was thinking - if you get something for the dremel and "cut" just enough of the bolts on the sides so that when you hit it or used a wrench, it would just break.....right?

p.a. - i already bought new nuts - someone told me to go buy new bolts, but they were like 12 bucks - so, i do not care about the old nuts - i just want the things off!

so, 8 wheels went bad and nothing happened? that sucks - i will let it soak in wd40 some more and try to file the rusty crap off the bolts and them maybe force a socket on there with a hammer - then see what happens.....i may just get a dremel anyways!

the cutting wheels you buy in a pack for a few bucks and they shatter pretty easily if you are trying to cut through something deep.
