I also want to know the answer to this. I am planning to replace the head gasket only when needed - if it cracks or if the head has to come off.

What is the advantage to an aftermarket head gasket? What is the advantage to having higher compression? Is there any disadvantage to it?

i know that increasing compresion will increase hp but will make youe engine not last as long. lowering compresion is good for turbo engine and will decrease hp if not running turbo but will extend your engine life, i want more power

As it seems to decrease engine longevity, I will definitely stick the standard OEM head gasket.

the only time that you want to increase your compression is if you are going all-motor setup...and if you buy a thick head gasket...you basically lower the compression and thinner head gasket raises the compression....just decide wisely on what you are aiming for...turbo or all-motor...

The jdm h22 runs a higher comp ration (10.6vs10.0) and no one seems to say those don't last. I think going from 10 to 10.2 would not kill longevity.
