you can request usdm motors...but i would think its hard to pass california emissions...a couple of my buddies give the guy $100 and tell him it has to pass, if you know what i mean.

in cali, you probably won't pass emission with a JDM swap. Here in nevada is easy... i pass with straight pipe and jdm swap!

Try www.importautosalvage.com. It'll cost ya, but they have some good motors USDM and JDM.

The engines emmisions is not the problem. A JDM H22 should pass that part no problem the area that will give you trouble is the fact that you are not supposed to have that engine in the car and that you will fail visual inspection. There is a long process of registering your JDM engine to be concidered legal. I am not sure of all the step involved but most just pay off a smog guy instead of daeling with that.

all h22's look the same, theres no way to tell without looking at the pistons (which would not be a visual inpection). the only thing is the smog equipment, if thats not on there thats a dead giveaway.

who ever told you a jdm h22 will not pass a visual is full of **** or doesn't know ANYTHING about preludes. jap spec cars burn and run cleaner than usdm cars because of the more strict emissions laws.

doesnt the jdm have japanese writing on the valve cover? i can always just throw a usdm cover on in that interest making it a sleeper at the same time :-) what way can you tell in visual its not the same engine? if it will pass smog ill go jdm.

as long as all the smog stuff is still with you (cat. O2 sensors, ERG system, etc...) it should pass with no problem.

there is no way of telling the difference between the jdm and usdm h22's (since our usdm ludes were all built over there, they needed to be "toned" down a bit}, the only difference is the ecu (not seen by a visual inspection) and the internals of the engine are made so as not to restrict the engine as much as ours over here.
