hardwiring accessory sockets

I'd like to add one of those multi-socket extensions to my cig lighter for other things (like cell phone adapter, map lights, etc.). But instead of just plugging it into my existing cig lighter, I want to hard wire it to the car. Has anyone else done this? Any help is appreciated...I'm not too sure what's going on in the fuse box as far as available spots or what not.

I have things hardwired in to my car. All you have to do is take off the center console plastic piece. It is just 8-10 screws. Now you can see the back of the cigarette adapter. The fat white wire is the power wire and there is a black wire to tap into for ground. After that you should be set.

hmmm, sounds quite easy. However, how is this different from going into the fuse box and using an open slot?

Also, if you do tap into the cig-lighter wires as you instruct, do I need to put an inline fuse into my tap or something?

oh hi, I'm just resurrecting this thread because the tapping-into-cig-lighter-method seems the easiest, I just want to know about having an inline fuse, whether it is needed or not.

thanks.

well it depends on how much power your goin to draw. if you are lookin at 4-5-6 power hungry device i suggest tappin it somewhere else, cause it can blow the cig fuse. else just run it, if your scared just tap a fuse. i have two neon wired up to my cig
