Hard starting

Ever since I bought my 4th gen, I've been having a small issue with starting. When I first start it up in the morning, it takes a bit longer than I would consider normal. My H22A Accord starts just about as soon as you hit the key. The Prelude cranks over for about 10 cycles before it catches. Last night, it took more like 20 cycles. It will always start right back up if you shut it down, but after sitting for a couple hours, it will be hard to start again. The car runs fine otherwise. Maybe a little rough on the idle, but I haven't done a tune-up on the car yet, and it has 172k miles.

Any ideas what I should look at?

same problem here..could be your timing belt???? mine is getting really hard to start, my belt is old i suppose. i will be changing it over the weekend to see if it fixes the problem. but yeah sometimes if the timing is off when you crank the car will take longer to start... does the engine shake when you crank it?

You might want to check your spark plugs....

I had the same problem. New plugs = fixed.

Ever try letting your fuel pump prime the system for a couple seconds before cranking the starter?

Just turn the key to position #2, listen for the fuel pump under the rear seats and let it prime for a few seconds. Then turn the key to crank the starter. Should start right up since its no longer waiting for the fuel system to pressurize while your cranking the starter.

I can't imagine the fuel system taking THAT long to pressurize.

It was just a suggestion. I know on really cold mornings if I forget to let it pressurize for a few seconds it will take a few more cranks until it starts.

cap, rotors, distributor, spark plug wires and spark plugs
the tip of the spark plug could be wet and wont fire up if fuel pump was the problem then ur car would sputter, just like a lighter if you wet it, it wont spark till its dry
i could be wrong my first atempt is looking at the tip of the spark plug and go on from there

The timing belt either works, or it doesn't. There's no in between. However, I do appreciate your attempt to help.

Been meaning to do a tune up on the car, but haven't gotten around to it. The car runs too good for me to want to mess with it

Letting the fuel system prime up doesn't have any affect on my car's problem. I thought that might have been an issue, and tried it out.

Nah, too expensive to replace just for troubleshooting measures.
