Happens to each and everyone of us good luders, Deck stolen....

As I was enjoying my nite of sleep, I woke up at 6:15am. Took a shower, went to look outside my window to see if I had to defrost any ice, and saw that my trunk and door was popped open. At first, I thought my brother went to put his backpack and forgot to close the trunk, but he was in the room still sleeping. I went down and I saw that my Sony Xplod L550X system was stolen. Yanked out of the car.

They popped open the trunk and most likely they were looking for a system to steal.

I don't know what to do now, I have no music, I put my stock one back but I have no code to use it, just for covering the wires and stuff. I'm parking in the garage now and leaving my dad's 92 caravan in front of the house.

I need an alarm... badly.... and I'm paranoid over this. I just got my nice clear lights from Outlawlude and a DC Sport Intake.

I know an alarm can be bought for $100-200 or so... but I do not know how to install it.... I don't know what kind of mechanics can install an alarm and I don't know how much. If you guys ever had someone install an alarm, please give me a rate.

Right now, I'm constantly looking on Ebay to see if the dumbass is selling it there. Man... this sucks so much.

dude that sucks, i got a viper alarm off groupbuycenter a year ago for 180. The dsp 800 if i can remember..... I had a frined of mine install it, he worked at a car audio shop so it was a proffesion install, he even wired it up so that you could open and close the sun roof with the remote... I think he did it with a couple of diodes....

But i know people who had their car stripped who had a similar alarm...one of my friends have that 600 clifford alarm, it got proximity sensors so you can't even get too close to it without it going off. Its pretty annoying but hey, atleast your car is safe....I think he has the extra battery too.....

I did the same thing as you, but also b/c my 1000+ dollar system fried for the 2nd time, so I yanked most of it. It lightened things up, too. The sad thing is, is that, if your car looks nice, and is hooked up, it's a break-in target regardless of what you have inside.... you really can't win.

I agree an alarm isn't too effective at preventing stereo theft. The alarm must be well installed or they can disable before it even goes off. Here's what I'd do, get any of the Viper alarms, from a security standpoint they are all the same. The higher models just get you more convenience and easier installation. I'm about to install a 600ESP on my 93 VTEC. Here's what I would do:

1) Add a hood pin switch (alarm will go off before they can cut the batt)
2) Add a battery backup (siren keeps going when the cut the batt)
3) Hide the siren well (knock that out and forget about it.)
4) Hide the brain anywhere but up under the dash (if they get to that your alarm is dead)
5) Add a pager, this goes off and tells you what zone is being violated.

You should probably add power trunk pop, you can pop the trunk with your remote. The new Crimestopper stuff has a nice two-way LCD paging alarm (remote start is an option.) Of course the price on this stuff adds up quick when you're having it installed but it's really the only way to secure your car. Resist the tempation to get cheap install, the alarm is really worthless then.

I'm taking the cheap route ... buying a Gloc 17 and a paging alarm. I'll say that I live in my car, and it was a home-invasion robbery.

I take this game seriously, and a dead thief is a good thief...

That alarm is fine but make sure they hook the auxiliary trigger up to the trunk and add a hood pin switch. I would also add a battery backup and make sure they hide the brain and siren well. I know you want security but if they do a poor install most thiefs can disable the alarm before the 3 second warning chirps end. If you let CC do their usual cheapo, quicky install you just have the illusion of security. If you do only one thing print this e-mail out and ask them to install it this way. BTW, if you want to add remote trunk pop now is the time to do it.

Hmmm, that's so true.

I have also bought the backup battery, and I will for sure tell them to hide it carefully.

Also, I do not have enough money for a hood pin and a popup trunk.

I'm not sure what a hood pin is also.

Popup trunk cost an extra $35 dollars I believe, but I'm really low on cash and I can only afford the alarm + backup battery.

When I bring it to CC, I will tell them to hide it AS GOOD AS POSSIBLE.

Hood pin switches are cheap, the switch itself costs a dollar (it's a switch that closes when the hood is opened triggering the alarm.) I don't know what they would charge to install it. Make sure they tie into the trunk open trigger and hide the siren well. If the theifs can get to the siren you're SOL. Just tell them to install the brain anywhere but under the driver's side dash. Still, I'm not sure how good this will be at preventing a smash-n-grab of your deck.

Hmmm, I will consider the hood pin. And I will tell the installer to install the brain + siren at a difficult place to locate. Hopefully they will hide the backup battery too. Well... everyone wish me luck.

Sorry about your loss, bro.

My system got jacked Thanksgiving, and I still have no music. After the insurance company raped me, I got a new amp that I'm pretty sure got fried already. All it was pushing was two coaxials Good thing I got the 3 year warranty.

Thanks for all the suggestions on the alarms. My car is in the garage now, and I sleep 20 feet away. If I catch them they are gonna "say hello to my little friend"

If my car gets broken into again, somebody's going to be saying goodbye to their son... Sucks to be their sibbling or parent. To the Denver thief who broke into my car, I'm visiting my girl in 5-points ... tell your parents that they better pray to God I don't find you. I WILL skin you alive...

You had better pray,
Jason

I got my stuff ripped off. pictures here

Im getting everything installed next week. IMHO, if you are going to get an alarm, get a battery backup. A member on hp.com has a smoke machine hooked up to his alarm. (Can't steal what you cant see). and like the other members said, make sure to hide the brain really well.

Damn, sorry about your loss too... that's a bigger loss than mine.

Yup, I picked up a back up battery.

Hey, I want a smoke alarm also, that sounds really cool.

Did you ever catch who stole all your stuff? Did you have an alarm? It should of went off or something and get the attention of people in the parking lot. Strange.
