H23a Valves

I bought my car from some guy and he says that the valves are noisy (they're super loud) because it's a new motor. It's still an h23 he says that his last one died so he replaced it and didn't get the valves done.
Is that right?
I don't know.

If he replaced it it shouldn't need a valve job, they should all be new...

I agree with hondatune, if it's a new motor, they should be new; and generally speaking valve tap shouldn't be too bad on a new motor. On the other hand, if it was a new pre-owned motor, then all bets are off.

Btw, nice name

Yup. A valve adjustment should be done every 30k miles. I just did one and a good bit of the valvetrain noise went away.

I don't like doing the valve adjustment. I've gotten lazy in college. They wanted to charge me extra for one when they did my timing belt "because they had to take the valve cover off" - apparently you don't have to take the valve cover off for a timing belt change

I'll add that to my list of things to do

You absolutely do have to take it off. You can't release the camshafts without removing the valve cover.

I know - that's the irony of the thing. I decided not to argue with them because I can do it myself for "free"
