need to take off the head. and then take off the oil pan to access the lower part of the piston. i did this on a mazda b2200 to change one of the pistons. so it is possible, but i figure it would be tougher on the lude.

yea its like this:
idle: no smoke
a little throttle from idle: puff of smoke then gone
rev again: nothing
let idle for a min: nothing
push gas a bit again: puff of smoke then gone
driving: no visable smoke
and i really don't use more oil then nessacary so i might look at the cat... hrmmm anyone have any ideas on this problem?
yeah, i mean, if you have the time and the inititiative, I say do it, you can bang out a few jobs while you're at it. Change rings, valve seals, do a check/adjust valve clearance, clean the head. And if you take pictures, you will be an allstar
