H23 ring change

Possible without pulling engine? any suggestions on doing the job?

need to take off the head. and then take off the oil pan to access the lower part of the piston. i did this on a mazda b2200 to change one of the pistons. so it is possible, but i figure it would be tougher on the lude.

yeah, what he said, but you don't need to remove the engine. Why do you need to change them. burning oil?

Yea its possible. Remove the Head, remove the Oil pan, remove the end caps and find something to carfully push the pistons out of the block.

yea its like this:

idle: no smoke
a little throttle from idle: puff of smoke then gone
rev again: nothing
let idle for a min: nothing
push gas a bit again: puff of smoke then gone
driving: no visable smoke

and i really don't use more oil then nessacary so i might look at the cat... hrmmm anyone have any ideas on this problem?

how many miles? It could be rings, it could be seals, if you're thinking of doing it, you might as well just do both.

i think that is just normal on H series motors

how long ago since you changed your oil?

going on 125000 and i changed my oil about 5000 miles ago.

yeah, i mean, if you have the time and the inititiative, I say do it, you can bang out a few jobs while you're at it. Change rings, valve seals, do a check/adjust valve clearance, clean the head. And if you take pictures, you will be an allstar
