H23 Rebuild, Help, Ideas And Suggestions Needed

Hey guys, I have a 95 Prelude SE and I have been having lots of problems with is and just yesterday the tranny gave out. So I decided that I am going to rebuild the engine and tranny. The other option was the JDM h22a swap but after much debating Im pretty set on rebuilding the good 'ol h23 and will hopefully be boosting by next summer. Got the financials worked out oo, Going to apply for a credit card with 0% intro apr for like 6 months and I should be str8.

What I need is advice on what parts are needed for bullet-proof rebulding and best places and prices I should expect. I opted to buy the parts myself and I am going to have my shop do all the install work, this way I at least save some money. Any help is appreciated especially for which parts that I am going to need and prices, I need some sort of ida what I am getting myself into. Brand recommendations would be helpful too!

Where the h23 guys at?

I had my H23 rebuilt, and my experience is, if I could do it all over again I would have bought an H22A, I have had nothing but problems since it was rebuilt, and it was supposed to be a good shop... just lettin ya know my experience.

What's wrong with the engine itself? You said the tranny went, but what happened with the engine?

Good point, that's what I was wondering too. Are SE's all auto transmissions? I vote for an H22 swap too. For the money, you can't beat it.

Well, I just asked that because.... if the engine is in good condition, I wouldn't mess with it. If you're looking for power, then build it up, but if there's something bad wrong with it, I wouldn't mess with trying to fix it... I'd replace it, so I guess I vote for a swap too.

The engine has problems, but nothing major like internals or anything, the car was actually suprisingly fast, even with 18 wheels & tires, factory freak? I enjoyed beating v6 Camaros, Celicas, Cougars, Civics, Accords (havent raced v6), etc and probably my best kill was my friends 94 Integra LS w/ I/H/E, racing cat, pulleys, and cam gears, I had seen this car beat many, many cars including my old auto lude Si very badly, but I just ate him up with the 95 se consistently I also consider all his kills mine too

but anyways, the problems with the engine is an oil leak, could be anything from the valve cover gaskets+one of the seals are leaking+oil pan and/or oilpan gasket, and since one of the seals are leaking its getting on the timing belt which means I will have to replace it=$$, as for the tranny I think one of the shift linkages went out, but I was just sort of "over it" in general, got me very po'ed and just wanted to rebuild or get a swap.

Now after hearing your guys suggestion, I am leaning towards a swap, best economical route to go, but maaan I luv my h23a I am thinking h23a vtec, not frakenstein but the JDM accord engine, anyone have any information about that engine? Since its an H series im pretty sure it'll drop rite into the bay but concerns are ECU and Tranny and would this actually be better than h22a?

thanks for your input guys, please keep em coming, knowledge is power!

(edit: My Prelude SE is Manual, and only mod is short ram intake)

Ooh, a JDM h23a? That'd be niice. There's a member on here with a J-spec h23a block in his lude. It sounds like a pretty nice setup...
